World Religions

What is the meaning of Life?
What do different religions or ethical people believe is the meaning of life?
I would like to hear from a wide range of beliefs and an in depth view on the topic.

Re: World Religions

Dear Jeebusbass

Welcome to CR!

'The meaning of life is to work out the meaning of life'

As a Christian Spiritualist we embrace that everyone as a divine purpose and as a healer I have learnt that when people heal the self of human needs and selfish desires, they raise their consciousness and in so doing they do indeed get in tune with their soul and discover their true reason for being.

Sometimes that can be as simple as birthing a special child who as important work to do on the planet, for others it can mean much more depending on the soul's individual and unique divine plan chosen pre-incarnation.

being love

Re: World Religions

Meaning of Life?

well... fortunately for us all, Monty Python has addressed this query.. in this fashion:

Why are we here, what's life all about?
Is God really real, or is there some doubt?
Well tonight we're going to sort it all out,
For tonight it's the Meaning of Life.

What's the point of all this hoax?
Is it the chicken and the egg time, are we just yolks?
Or perhaps we're just one of God's little jokes,
Well ça c'est the Meaning of Life.

Is life just a game where we make up the rules,
While we're searching for something to say,
Or are we just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA?

In this life, What is our fate?
Is there Heaven and Hell? Do we reincarnate?
In mankind evolving or is it too late?
Well tonight here's the Meaning of Life.

For millions this life is a sad vale of tears,
Sitting round with nothing to say,
While scientists say we're just simply spiralling coils,
Of self-replicating DNA.

So just why, why are we here?
And just what, what, what, what do we fear?
Well çe soir, for a change, it will all be made clear,
For this is the Meaning of Life
- c'est le sens de la vie,
This is the Meaning of Life.

Re: World Religions

the meaning of life is to find meaning in life.

so go do something meaningful. waiting for answers to big questions to land in your lap is a silly waste of time.

I agree with ISFP on one hand, but on the other hand I want to tell you that the meaning of life is living, regardless of the motivation for such conduct. And at the same time, I want to chide myself for thinking I know what the meaning of life is or that there is meaning at all. But I find meaning in it and I won't question that, even if I do question the universality of my meaning.

I guess I qualify as an ethical person by someone's standard. I think I just answered the question though. Joseph Campbell said "Life is without meaning. You bring the meaning to it. The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning." I guess he was moral. I never heard anything scandalous about him.

Re: World Religions

Life is about choices. You can choose in every moment of your life how to react, how to feel, what to say, etc. as you have free will. Each choice can lead you to a path of lessons to learn for your spiritual evolution. The most important thing is to turn into yourself and listen to the divine guidence.

Namaste Vaj,

Thank you for the answer. I hope I can find "The Life of Brian" at my Blockbuster and see with my own eyes how funny that movie is.

From Life of Brian:

Quote:

"I think it was 'Blessed are the cheesemakers.'"
"Ahh, what's so special about the cheesemakers?"
"Well, obviously, this is not meant to be taken literally. It refers to any manufacturers of dairy products."
