What are your thoughts on Sachmo, Lady Day, Ella, Lena Horne, Lionel Hampton, B.B. King and the Marsalises? My parents and I used to have records/cassettes/cds of them along with several other jazz/blues musicians but I loaned a couple of them (never returned) and the rest ended up being lost before I moved into my current residence.

Hey Phyllis--I love them all, but Lady Day is a beautiful queen.

Phyllis...these were/are all some of the greatest artists of their craft. Reacquire as many of them as possible and listen, listen, listen. They don't make 'em like that anymore. If you haunt the used record/tape/CD stores they are usually available at a fair price. Great therapy to soothe your soul
flow....

No, it is HOT
The man is the non-professional (a cricketer!!).
Here's the world profesional champs with authentic music (Astor Piazzolla)
YouTube - Professional Argentine Tango - Strictly Come Dancing 2006
Enjoy!!!
(on my crabby old PC it kept freezing the first time I viewed it but when I re-ran it everything was hunky dory)

Hi Phyllis,
Can't say as these are people I've enjoyed (or heard of in one case), as you ask! When I was keen on blues I liked people like Bukka White, Robert Johnson, Elmore James and more contemporary stuff like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robert Cray. Used to be into jazz a lot more too, people like Tony Williams, David Murray and ROVA. Still got some of these folks CDs but my mind has (as ever) wandered off to pastures new, in the main.

Re: What music are you listening to?
Stevie Ray. What can I say? Cold Shot, Crossfire, Look at Little Sister....
Well, here I go again, but I gotta tell you that my husband went to school with him and his brother. I know, I know. First Miles, and now Stevie--wanna hear about Chick, as well as the Dixie ones? (he-he)

Re: What music are you listening to?
Hi,
Texas must be a really small place.
I was going to see SRV but the concert was cancelled; I think he'd injured himself the night before on stage. And then that was it....he was killed in the helicopter crash.

Re: What music are you listening to?
Yeah--so many artists leave that way. Guess maybe the odds increase when one travels so much?
Well--last night a friend of mine gave me a couple of DVDs. One was Celtic Woman (I really enjoy them). The other was Sarah Brightman, "La Luna". I think I'm in love!

Re: What music are you listening to?
Oh, I almost forgot--
I haven't read all the way through this thread for a while, so they may have been mentioned before, but what about the Trans Siberian Orchestra? Pretty awesome.

Re: What music are you listening to?
I know I'm not a christian... But this song is good... heh, been playing it constantly... No idea why either... I am more in to metal and rock.. But this song is worth a listen... At least just once.
WhiteCross - Walk with me.
Julie my child
Why do you run?
Why have you turned away from me?
You say it’s hard
To live perfectly
And all you can see
Is how you fail me constantly
You fail me constantly
You fail me constantly
My blood has cleaned you
Your sins are remembered no more
So come on, and walk with me
Julie my child
I’ve set you free
For I want you to be with me eternally
I love you so
I want you to know
That I’m the one who’s calling you home
Calling you home
Calling you home
My blood has cleaned you
Your sins are remembered no more
So come on, and walk with me
My blood has cleaned you
Your sins are remembered no more
So come on, and walk with me
