Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

Loved the show. Sometimes I'd fake being sick to stay home from church to watch it. Spock was my hero because he was so logical.

The movie I saw most recently was "The Departed". My wife wanted to see it so we rented it. Very intertaining despite the violence and I thought Nicholson was great!

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

The in-class double-feature tonight was Carved In Silence (about Chinese immigration and exclusionistic practices) and Before Stonewall (about the queer "community" and their fight for civil rights before the infamous riot.)

Some of both was sad, some was rather dull (what do you expect from schoolwork? )

He, heh...I splurged and got every episode and every movie, and every novel on Star Trek (books up until 2001, when they started getting really weird).

I even wrote a story and tried to get it published...(no name, no go, catch 22), but that was back in 1985.

New ST movie will have Shatner, Picard and Archer, in an alternate universe...should prove interesting.

So who's your favorite character?

The new movie sounds really interesting! I hope Shatner kicks their...nevermind.

And I didn't know that you are a writer, too! What a great way to stretch your mind. I've only done some shorts and poetry.

Regards,
Mark

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

A Cruel Romance, a Russian movie based on an old story (or was it a play? *shrug*) about an idealistic woman (read: dreamer) without a dowery (sp?) and her "practical" mother. It's a bit strange how things haven't changed much in over 100 years. Alas, 'tis a bit dull.

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

Last night we watched an incredible movie called "Off the Map." Great characters, great treatment of depression, great vision of a simple life and all sorts of genius. Beautiful flim.

I recommend it, can you tell?

Must have been. I enjoyed the movie, and I love Scorsese, but Babel for one, was a much better movie, and better directed.

When the Mountains Tremble

A must-see documentary about the (eventually armed) resistance and struggle of the Mayan/Quiche and other impoverished people of Guatemala against a brutal military-economic system.

Basically we are talking slave rebellion here.

Scenes of graphic violence and soul-rending injustice, but also of the strength and resilience of the human spirit.

Take notes.

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

Mat, an early silent movie from the former Soviet Union, and Slave of Love, a more recent film from the former Soviet Union. *sigh* Movies take on a whole new meaning when seen in class.

I also watched a few episodes of Bleach to bring me back to "reality" (plus my :kitty: nature poked its head into the limelight. )

300 on IMAX ... the best movie Ive ever seen. Better than Gladiator..Better than Braveheart and those two are probably my favorite movies. Ya'll have to splurge and go see it on IMAX if you can.. you wont regret it.
