Sure, as long as he gets custody of the kids, the house, child support and alimony when she leaves him....

It's to "keep you in the manner to which you've become accustomed," or so I hear.

I can relate...from the kid's point of view. Probably why I took so long to finally get around to marrying. Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks can do that to a person... All this about alimony and stuff is academic to me for the moment, and I plan on doing everything I can to keep it that way.

what is wrong with polgamy? absolutely nothing, so long as all parties are free to consent, are not children, and not suffering from mental/emotional defects...

unfortunately, religious polygamy stinks to high heaven... it is, as we see in this specific case, often an excuse for men to abuse women and children...

Well said.

A constant whipping with bible verses that support the inferiority of women. If it doesn't fuel the mental/emotional defects, then it is good enough to get the submission series started.

Re: What Is Wrong With Polygamy???

It is very interesting to see this topic raised about a faith other than Islam.

Would I share my husband ... not in a zillion years. Do I object to adults concenting to polygamous marriage ..... nope, if everyone is happy and can cope emotionally then go for it.

One of the difficulties that hasn't been raised, perhaps because this thread is largely about the issue in the US, is that of wealth and basic survival. If a woman concents to a second wife because if she doesn't she will be divorced and penniless with no hope of financial aid from the state .... is that really concent or blackmail?

Re: What Is Wrong With Polygamy???

From what I understand, polygamy was ‘assistance’ to the community in the Mormon sects, at its initial root, to bridge the gap. AS the men were murdered and killed in conflicts, families that could accommodate would take in the wife and children of the deceased.

But then that male/female attraction began and a form of adultery existed, yet someone in leadership made sense of the compromise and found a way to create an addition to scriptures.

Almost like the burqa with Islam. Men were found to like women (imagine that) and to avoid that instinctive desire a method to reduce the exchange was found. And someone made sense of the compromise and now written within the ‘book.’ I would bet, the initial causation was by a man of religious power had a daughter the warriors liked and to eliminate the observance or instinctive aspect, they covered the women, an made a law, that has existed for millennium.

Most every instigation of laws, rules and requirements can be identified by man/women’s instinctive as well, selfish desires/needs.

God doesn’t write or give rules to mankind. Never has!

People created every word known to exist and often lie about their intent, thereof; so find the cause, for your polygamy; boys like girls; an people can fib just to get what they want. And like most of the selfish, some want a wee bit too much!

I mean really guys, if we as young boys actually believed God was really going to give us a bunch of young virgins, upon a martyrs death, and we were well into puberty ….. each might say,

‘put the belt on!, where’s the bus?, give me that button!’
