what is the mythology surounding this type of thing?
One of the most enlightened beings to ever walk the face of the Earth, says this about it:
You cannot ever attract unto yourselves a greater power than you yourselves are. Therefore you are equipped to meet and transmute anything which you attract.
Do you have a desire, an interest, or better yet - a commitment - to transmute any negativity that you encounter? If so, then you're on the right track.

Another quote, which is appropo here:
Until one is committed
there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back,
always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation)
there is one elementary truth,
the ignorance of which kills countless ideas
and splendid plans;
that the moment one definitely commits oneself
then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one
that would never otherwise have occurred.
A whole stream of events issue from the decision,
raising in one's favor all manner
of unforeseen incidents and meetings
and material assistance which no one could have dreamt
would have come his way. -M.H. Murray, from the Scottish Himalayan Expedition
But here, how 'bout one more, for the road. Sage advice from the wisest man ... to ever walk the planet:
"Suppose a man is struck by a poisoned arrow and the doctor wishes to take out the arrow immediately. Suppose the man does not want the arrow removed until he knows who shot it, his age, his parents, and why he shot it. What would happen? If he were to wait until all these questions have been answered, the man might die first." (the Teaching of the Buddha Shakyamuni, paraphrased by Thich Nhat Hanh, in Zen Keys)
Or shall we quote His Brother, the Christ?
If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. (Matthew 17:20)
Which man did lie, the Buddha, the Christ, the Maha-Chohan (Master Rakoczy), or M.H. Murray, to tell us these things?

To at least three of them, "evil" as we know it is but a twig, and easily snapped. We are allowed - and required - to struggle with darkness ... and to overcome it, in order to one day stand where they stand.

Perhaps this will help you in the moment. Reflect on M.H. Murray's words, especially. And if you are religious, pray. Earnestly. You cannot help, but meet with response. It is the Law ... the Law of Love. It is the Power that actually moves mountains, and planets, and Cosmos ...

And even if you have doubt(s), or uncertainties, then remember, you tip the balance of the scales - just by entertaining certain possibilities. Faith removes all obstacles, as Christ assured us.

Sorcery and black magic tap into a limited energy supply, they are a very low order of magic, dealing with the material world - and not the Spirit(ual). Focus on Light, and on positive imagery (whatever is most comforting to you). This immediately renders you POSITIVE relative to all negativity. It puts the ball in YOUR court. NO MATTER WHAT!

If you feel a visualization would help, ask for one, or PM me. I will reply.

Namaskar ... Love and Light,

I believe understanding God's Holy nature is the key to understanding His goodness and grace. Here's what I mean: When we are absolutly certain of our worth and of our worthlessness and understand Christ' worth and what He accomplished on sinner's behalf - Namely, to satisify God's righteous anger and wrath against sin, then we become almost impervious to doubt. And as a result, we see ourselves as already condemned evil doers who - catch this now - cannot saved themselves (since a guity man can do nothing to earse His crimes), but instead has to rely totally on the provision provided for you that you may be saved. This is the gospel - the good news of Jesus.

That already guilty sinners (sinners being people who have broken God's Ten Commandments) can do nothing to earse their crimes against God who is Holy. But, God so loved the world that He sent His Son that whoever believers in the Son, will have eternal life. Jesus did it all! If we repent (turn from sins and turn to God) and Trust Jesus, God will change us and create in us a new heart with new desires and we'll love God and keep His commandments, not out of selfish desires, but purely out of selfless motives and love for Him who rescued us. Moreover, God will credit or impute Jesus' perfect life to our account. Good deal, eh? This is why good works cannot earn salvation...People are already guilty before God since all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. We need a Savoir. This is why Jesus said, "I am the way."
