Two world mindset?

Okay, because of my environmentalist nature I spend some time thinking on why people don't have much value of nature. Eventually my thoughts turned me towards this one theory, that people tend to think of one world as two worlds. They are divided into

1. Nature

2. Society

In modern society the world tends to be made like this and people (not all mind you) will look at an issue that affects the world as a whole in these two mind sets for example. Global warming.

1. The global temperature increases causing more sever weather and rising sea level.

2. The ice melts revealing even more pockets of oil and lowers gas prices.

Okay, it may not seem like a good example but it's something more realistic in a society that thrives on business and oil. If you step out of the cities and human society all the things that mattered in that world don't matter as much in nature. Nature doesn't care for money and social status. It doesn't care for your schedule. Human society (this doesn't count for all countries) doesn't hold the basic things that matter in nature, like what to do about food, water, and shelter, in as high a standard. Instead it's worried more about the economy and our status in society.

Thoughts on this please, even if it does seem like the ramblings of a novice.

The problem is perhaps the consumerism and the needs of consumers are basic on direct short-term needs and wants - and with this, the expectation that someone else (politicians, business, groups, etc) will attend to the long-term situation.

Rush Limbaugh, an american conservative radio talk show host...really a right wing shock jock out to get ratings vs. put forth any meaningful conversation... Ok my opinions almost out of the way...my favorite line of his...Man cannot destroy the earth...all man can do is make it uninhabitable by man...the earth will survive and thrive after our demise..

I'm not following the global warming find more oil bit...I guess you are looking at more arctic reserves... however I think as Brian indicated we all have a mindset regarding conservation of our natural resources...they are just often outweighed by our desire for personal creature comforts..

Cutting down trees to produce log homes is not effective use of lumber, burning same in your woodstove to save on gas or electric causes more pollution and greenhouse gases as well as depleting forests... Boy scouts now trained in Leave no Trace and the Outdoor code still have the largest negative impact on our national forests, simply because there are so many out there each month enjoying the environment.

We have a limited amount of land, food, water, forest, even oil...yet reproduce in an unlimited way...tis a math problem.

I think the equalizer in this math problem, might be something that we are finding increasingly difficult to stop; disease. With so many people disease can easily pass from one host to the next and quickly become an epidimic or outbreak. Though modern medicine has been able to find ways to help us resist disease, it's only a matter of time before viruses evolve beyond our current medical knowledge and spreads possibly killing off much of the world population.

Though the initial purpose of two world mindset was to guess why people thought the way they did towards the environment it works to try to guess the way someone thinks towards anything that provokes mental stress. If you look at your own mentality when something gets on your nerves you'll find that you'll divide the world into two or more pieces, the things that you like and don't like, or things you care and don't care about.

I actually wonder if there is research done to find out why that line between like, don't like, or care and don't care is different for different people. It's no secret that attitudes towards homosexuality vary, however it's curious what causes these individuals to think the way they do. Some are fine, others don't know what to think and others dispise it. It could be up bringing however I know people who have been living under a strictly religious and close minded family but turn out to be some the the most open minded people.

The two world mindset is perhaps a tool to understand the way you and other people think, and depending on the encounter, make assumptions on why they think that way so you can come up with an arguement against your opponent and maybe find out where your personal understanding is flawed, even thought I think I may have made things sound even more confusing.
