Tv
I've got no use for most of today's TV programming...I don't know, the serial things I miss too many and can't get started or keep up... the cop shows...I'd rather watch Gunsmoke, Mannix, or Rockford reruns...
The first generation of reality shows I never got into...Big Brother, Survivor, American Idol, the race... but now they are in my venue....I get hooked because I like the skill or I know someone on the show....I have friend that won that show with Norm from cheers....she got the house in Florida....the second Apprentice winner...he still works for Trump...America's got talent...always have a bunch of friends trying out for that one....Jim is now working his way through The Next Best Thing...and American Inventor...Last Comic Standing... And it is summer time...the sun is still up and that silly box is dragging me into the house to see what is going on... |

Re: Tv
I am so done with American Idol. I actually started watching it a couple of seasons ago mainly suckered in by my wife and two daughters. I correctly pick Taylor Hicks as favorite all the way back at the initial auditions, but my wife and kids scoffed at me. Last season, I picked Melinda Doolittle back at the final 24. She should have deservedly won. But I no longer have faith in a show that kept Sanjara for so long. It's just a popularity contest, no more.
In fact, I pretty much distain all reality shows now. And like you, wil, I just don't have the time to hang with serial shows (though I wanted so bad with "Heroes", but life is more). "Lost" while it started out as a good premise, got, well...lost. Or it lost me, just the same. Mostly what I watch on TV are movies. Or reruns of Star Trek (in whatever form). Or watch DVDs. Or news, though that tends to get depressing, not so much as the bad news as much as the drone coverage of the superfluous "scandal of the month". |

Re: Tv
There was a time when I watched some reality shows but now I mostly ignore them all. Sometimes I watch the new pirate show but not so much. I love heroes. But most likely I'm watching reruns of startrek, the simpsons, south park, family guy or american dad. I do like last comic standing. I'm not really so good at keeping up with episodes though, except in the regular season when I make sure to catch heroes and usually smallville.
Lately I've been reading a lot more and watching less television. Since I removed some of the foods I'm sensitive to like gluten and cane sugar I've noticed it's been easier for me to do that. Yaaaaay books. Dauer |

Re: Tv
Communicated with Kelly via a company we worked with...he left to go to the apprentice...the boss was positive he'd win. Not a friend...email/phone contacts only...Other folks on shows are friends, or performed with...
Heroes...I enjoyed the first few shows...stuff got in the way...couldn't keep up...another serial bites the dust. Lost...tuned in a couple times...I stayed lost. As for the dancing or talent shows...if they were more talent and less hoorah...I'd be soooo much happier....yeah youtube just putting out the clips. I guess I'm like that for the Olympics too....just show me the competition...and all the competition not just the ones we have medalists in...and the heck with the personal behind the scenes story...put that in a hallmark movie. News....I quit that in the early 80's tried it again in the late 90's...same stuff, murder, mahem, star gossip...turned it back off. |

Re: Tv
The only decent thing I have seen come out of the US for some time is CSI and such like. Give me a good murder mystery anyday (I even watch Murder She Wrote when I'm desperate)
What is with these tv shows that follow minor celebrities around all day? Never heard of them, some blonde bimbo with plastic boobs and 6 pack husband. Oooooh look she bought new undies, oh dear her husband was annoyed at the price, oo great they went for dinner, oh dear they had a row in the car park..........who gives a rats bottom????!! |

Re: Tv
Sometimes the History Channel or the Science Channel or PBS still has some good programming. I still watch reruns of "Judging Amy" since I did not see them all before. And I delight in Star Trek Next Generation stuff (haven't seen all of them yet, either--finally got to see the saucer separate the other day). And I liked Medium, but that is over for the season. Boston Legal is pretty raunchy, but funny sometimes. And I can't help myself--I know it makes me sound stupid or something, but I like American Idol. Even if I don't like that particular network very much. Does anyone think that the fundraising they did for the folks in New Orleans and in Africa really will do some good? Or is it just another global photo op?

Re: Tv
I'd like to know where the good shows went - Ally McBeal, Sex & the City, you know the girly stuff that doesn't try to make out women should all be perfect and that yes, we do come in all shapes, sizes and characters?

I know. I know. In shows like "The Real World" and "Big Brother", they place these unrelated people in a "false" world and watch them react with one another and all that happens is that the drama queens get jealous of each other and the girls go blubbering in the corner or have out and out b!tch-fights, and we are supposed to sympathize with that? Then after all is said and done, everyone makes up and goes home. Blecch! Stop wasting my time. I get enough "reality" with my own life. (Not that I have girls blubbering in the corner or anything like that) |

All shapes? Those four girls were all slim, and most of women in Ally McBeal were extremely thin. |

it has sex in the title LOLI thought there were varying degrees of ladyhood in Ally McBeal's office? Maybe that was wishful thinking on my part. Now you come to mention it there was different sizes of boobs etc but most of them did need a good meal or two. Particularly Ally, bless her, I think that was part of her charm, you desperately wanted to mother her and feed her up a bit. |
