The Wandering Gypsy

Hi,
I found this place yesterday. I think it is just the kind of place that I can park my 'caravan', whenever I feel the need for a spiritual drink! I feel that I am a spiritual gypsy, wandering in search of my inner core - I believe all the answers to all my spiritual questions are within me, if I only could take the time to take the long, winding journey within. But, in reality, I am a run-of-the-mill, middle-class, stick-in-the-mud creature who slogs for my living and has other domestic responsibilities that tie me down to mother earth - so I have very little time to be a gypsy and take off on my lonesome spiritual quest!

I am a Hindu by birth, but am not well-read in Hindu scriptures. So I couldn't debate/discuss with any of you from a scriptural perspective. My upbringing in India gave me a bird's-eye view of other religions, ethnicities, and cultures within India. I don't know how often or how much substance I can contribute to discussions here... but, like I said before, I'll park my 'caravan' here whenever the gypsy in me takes over!

The language of the gypsies is Romany. But I am only a gypsy sometimes in spirit - so the language of communication varies depending on the language in which I am musing; sometimes there is no spoken word - it can be just a state of sublime bliss or peace or love with the omniscient one.

Of course, to communicate on this board my gypsy spirit will have to use the English language.

Maybe I can also learn about the spiritual journey of PersonaNonGrata. Why have you chosen this name for your identity? Merriam-Webster's online dictionary defines 'persona non grata' as 'personally unacceptable or unwelcome'! By the way, is it your photo next to your name - the picture of the red-faced dude?

i dont know wanderer... really i don not, but it seems where ever i go, doors are closing on my face. wise and way smart (*) to be accepted for a society maybe, dunno really. i would love to be a gypsy.

Well, PersonaNonGrata, that's sad, if people don't accept you as you are. I have felt that way too, sometimes, that some people look down on me for the opposite reason - I am polite, and try to see things from different points of view - so they assume that I don't have personality. But I have realised over time, that I have many people in my life who have come to respect me, and truly care for me, because they see through the superficial to who I am. So I don't bother about the people who look down on me - they don't really know me. Heck, I feel sometimes that I don't know myself entirely - new situations in my life show me new aspects of myself that I wasn't aware of! So, who's to blame others if they don't see through to the real me?

I agree with your assessment, based on your first reply. In fact, I had to read your first reply to me 3 times, before I was sure that you were really welcoming me! My first reaction was 'Oh my God, who is this person replying to me? Is he taunting me?'

I'm vegetarian by birth, but my parents did not mind me trying meat, eggs, etc. I never really enjoyed the taste of meat - so it's not on my menu! I used to love eggs at one time. I used to meditate regularly some years ago, and noticed that I gradually did not have the same fascination for eggs any more as I did before. My idea of fun is spending time with friends and family, and doing things with them. Also enjoy good wit and humour. I used to love the colour red as a kid, but as an adult my favourite is blue. But as an Indian, I like garments of all colours, if they are tasteful.

Yes, discussing religion can get provocative. I have visited a few of the discussion threads here, which seem to get quite serious, but so far haven't seen anything very explosive going on. So, there is hope that we won't 'nuke' each other out here in the name of religion!
