I don't have the expertise to pick through and decide what's bunk and what isn't, and I'm reluctant to accept things I can't verify because they wind up in my spider web of facts that I build ideas with. I guess that's part of the reason I stick closer to metaphysics than physics. That way I can keep it philosophical!

Hi Chris :

Where's Tuva ? I've only been to France and England. One week near Mt. Blanc, one week in Paris, and one hour on a runway at Heathrow.

You should look up some articles on acoustics that have been written over the past 30 years or so. Anything in Scientific American or the NYTIMES Science Times Section would give you the basics.

Did you know that the sun gives off a variety of acoustic waves all of the time, and every living thing on Earth is bathed in their unheard sounds each day? I think of it as G-d's magic that brings us the wildness of life each and every day without fail, along with free light and heat. And then there are the stars at night. Don't get me started

We would all be Moorlocks without it all.
Maybe since I grew up in the 50's, I already am one.

China Cat Sunflower will become famous soon enough
Re: The Antikythera Mechanism

Oh, there was a documentary on PBS years ago about Feynman trying to go to Tuva to hear the famous throat singers there. I don't remeber exactly where Tuva is, but I think it's in territory controlled by China.

Have you ever seen or read a book titled The Cosmic Octave, Origin of Harmony by Hans Cousto? It is a sort of refelction on some of the principle ideas put forward in Kepler's World Harmony.

Re: The Antikythera Mechanism

Hi Chris:

Yeah...I remember now. It's somewhere in the Himalayas. The throat singer guys are usually hanging out with the Buddhist monks who are playing those long horns that make low and rumbling sounds that are like the throat singing sounds. Some of the Swiss also engage in playing such horns and throat singing of sorts. Kind of reminds me of some of the opening scenes in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The monks are usually wearing saffron, red, or maroon robes and wear those Greek-looking helmet thingys with central ridges and which are usually yellow. The helmet thngys are duplicated in form among the ancient Hawaiians, and the Olmec/Toltec cultures, among others. Think that these things might be reflective if the unseen and unheard acoustic waves from the sun that we are all bathed in everyday ? Come to think of it, people living in mountainous regions would get the most intense effects from this phenomenon.

I think that this all goes to show that some people like Feynmann are driven to find the ultimate sources of harmonic structure, and that's a good thing I believe.

Thanks for the book tips...as if I had enough time to read anything these days.

Keep smiling !
