Lightbulb Soul groups?

I've heard people before speak of "soul mates" - but what about "soul groups"?

I've only once encountered this idea, many years ago, and from a friend - but, essentially, it was about how everyone is part of one of a range of "soul groups", and that people in each of these groups have simliar skills and purposes.

Sometimes you will speak to someone, and they will so closely remind you of someone else - not simply in their looks but also their personality - in some strange way.

Anyone familair with this idea? If so, what did you think of it?

in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition, there is a concept of individual, group, city, state and national karma.

this would seem to be an analog to your query without the soul bits
