Shintoism

Hello all! I have been searching for my path as far as spirituality goes for a few years now, and have always been spiritual. I believe in God and spirits and forces that are beyond conventional science since I could speak of such matters. Thanks to this website, I was able to really narrow down my research with facts and not people's opinions. Kudos to this website and those who made it possible.
I feel I may have found my path with Shintoism, but the problem is that while I have an idea for what it is and have read through the works, I still don't know how I go about "officially" becoming one (I use "officially" in quotations since there isn't a dogma or creed). Could anyone give me any info on this and where I might find some further information (already ordered books from Amazon.com)?
I find this allure to a Japanese religion convenient since I speak Japanese, practice ninjutsu, and will be living in Japan for a few years. Does anyone here know of a Shinto temple or a practicing sect in America? Thanks!
