Peace On Earth
About the only time we hear "Peace on Earth" is at Christmastime, but it's something we should hear year round.
In 1939 Hugh Harman produced a cartoon with that title. It was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize as well as an Academy Award although it won neither.
I think it is one of the most thought provoking things ever produced. If you've never seen this piece of animation I hope it moves you like it did me the first time I saw it several years ago. View it here.

Re: Peace On Earth
It is absolutely hilarious that often when I say peace, or I want peace...people look at me as if I am some kind of radical...these are the same people that think the US should be a Christian Nation...how weird is that??
Like Peace is never mentioned by Jesus...oops...secular thread...
Like war makes more sense than peace....no I don't want Peace...I'd rather kill...well I'm only killing because they disagree with me....what are they doing on my oil anyway??
Great sentiment, great peace.

Re: Peace On Earth
The animation features of the 30's-50's are among the highest expressions of art of the 20th century IMHO. I can still remember being screaming-scared when the wicked Queen in Snow White came on the screen in the Disney Movie. Lots of human warmth comes across on the screen in the images that Mr. Harman and others created in this area in those times.
Thanks for posting this Jack. I have visions of chaining certain leaders to their chairs and making them watch this short for about 24 hours without a break. Maybe we could call it "animation boarding".
Oh...I found this on another site and it looked interesting to me. I don't know about all of the rest of you , but I can certainly afford to spend an hour of my time on July 17th meditating on the need for world peace. Let me know what you think of this. Why not try it...nothing else seems to be working.

I am the ocean
Lit by the flame
I am the mountain
Peace is my name
I am the river
Touched by the wind
I am the story
I never end.
Peace is a word
Of the sea and the wind.
Peace is a bird who sings
As you smile.
Peace is the love
Of a foe as a friend;
Peace is the love you bring
To a child
Searching for me
You look everywhere,
Except beside you.
Searching for you
You look everywhere,
But not inside you.
Peace is a stream
From the heart of a man;
Peace is a man, whose breadth
Is the dawn.
Peace is a dawn
On a day without end;
Peace is the end, like death
Of the war.
Peace – King Crimson.

Re: Peace On Earth
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
Ecclesiastes 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
Ecclesiastes 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
Ecclesiastes 3:5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
Ecclesiastes 3:6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
Ecclesiastes 3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
Ecclesiastes 3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Ah yes, wise words indeed Leo. It's just that there's too much hate and too much war in this old world.
