The first book of the Bible tells us how mankind’s problems began. The last book shows that the whole earth will become a paradise, or garden. All the material in the Bible covers thousands of years of history and relates in some way to the unfolding of God’s purpose. Mee, I think you need to watch the Penn & Teller video on the absurdity of Biblical Literalism. Then I'd like to hear your careful, intelligent refutation of the dozens of points they make.

At any rate, I'll go with the simple "test the spirits" in arguing my point. The Bible does say that, but then - I'm just trying to show you how your own, Sacred Scripture can actually be used in getting some good advice about how to proceed in using a ouija board ... or in deciding whether or not to do so.

It's okay if you'd rather not think about it. We can listen to Bible quotes all day long ...

this verse that you mentioned in (1 john 4;1) is not talking about spirit creatures , it is refering to an anti-christ spirit in people, and what thay say . if it is not inline with christ and what he teaches in the bible then it is wrong. yes its always best to test it out to see if it is inline with the bible and what it teaches, and ouiji boards are not in line with the bible and what it teaches us .

I have a major problem with the assumption that if it's not in the Bible it must be wrong.

By that logic, the vast majority of the things we take for granted today like modern medicine, computers, the internet, etc. are wrong. After all, they aren't in the Bible.

And which Bible is supposed to be the authoritative one? There are so many to choose from. And why again should non-Christians believe in the Christian Bible in the first place? Why shouldn't we be picking some other religion's holy scripture and telling everyone that they must follow that one?

With regard to things like the Ouija, different religions have different attitudes towards it. Even within a specific religion it's not always a simple thing. People will need to think it through and decide what makes sense to them in their own religious system and based on their own rationalizations. But to expect everyone to follow one specific religion's rules just because it says so in that religion's holy texts is not going to get us very far as a multifaith multicultural world.

Mee, aside from the bible, can I recommend that you read some other books, maybe for instance, the God Delusion or the Blind Watchmaker. You never know, you might learn something.....

Steve, I acme through a ouiji [isnt it spelled wiji?] board portal one time. It's spelled Ouija -- oui is French for "yes", and ja is German for "yes." It's the "yes-yes" board. (Yup, it is a weird name but that is what the inventors decided to call it.)

what makes you think that i havent read other books? maybe i have done what others before me have done .

I am not saying that i have litrally burned any books but realizing that they are worthless and not really any use at all is the thing i have come to realize. yes reading books is good but taking them to heart is not good because only the bible is really good.
And as ecclesiastes 12;12-14 says ,As regards anything besides these, my son, take a warning: To the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion [to them] is wearisome to the flesh.

The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the [true] God and keep his commandments. For this is the whole [obligation] of man. For the [true] God himself will bring every sort of work into the judgment in relation to every hidden thing, as to whether it is good or bad.

spirit mediums are mentioned in the bible , thats what i like about the bible good and bad things happen , but it doesnt mean that the spirit mediums are doing good in Gods eyes because God tells people what is right and what is wrong in his eyes. and getting in contact with so called dead people is a thing that God tells us is wrong . modern inventions are not wrong if they are not used to go against the true Gods commandments . those boards would be doing just that.
