Re: Original sin
Kindest Regards, SOGFPP, and welcome to CR!
Ummm, I guess I need to ask what it is you mean by original sin? I have always understood the term to refer to Adam and Eve's original goof in the garden. Is that what you might be referring to? |

Re: Original sin
What would it take to eliminate sin and its consequence, death? Clearly, something more than any human can provide. The psalmist lamented: "The payment for a human life is too great. What he could pay would never be enough to keep him from the grave, to let him live forever." (Psalm 49:8, 9, Today’s English Version) Granted, we may be able to extend our life for a few years by means of a healthful diet and medical care, yet none of us can cure our inherited sinful condition. None of us can reverse the crippling effects of the aging process and restore our body to the perfection that God originally intended for it. Paul was certainly not exaggerating when he wrote that because of Adam’s sin, human creation "was subjected to futility"—or as The Jerusalem Bible renders it, "was made unable to attain its purpose." (Romans 8:20) Happily, though, the Creator has not abandoned us. He has made provision to remove sin and death once and for all.

Re: Original sin
It depends for me what you mean by original sin. I have heard some say that we are inherently evil. I don't know if this is what is meant by original sin or not. I dismiss the belief that man is inherently evil. this is simply not so. Do we sin? yes of course. Sin means to be off the mark.
I think mankind is inherently greedy, lustful, gluttonous and those other "deadly sins", but these things are not evil. Man is also inherently benevolent and loving. it is in our very nature to love and give. I leave the category of evil to be occupied for the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Saddam Hussein and those types. I would also throw serial killers and child molestors in that category also. But these people make up a very small percentage of mankind. To me there is far more good than evil in the world. Proof of this is easy, take a poll of how many people liked Hitler, Stalin etc. You'll probably come up with less than 1% if that. Those that oppose these things are good. Remember, greed, lust, gluttony and sloth are all manifestations of the instincts that God gave us. If we weren't hungry we wouldn't eat, no sex drive no procreation, no rest or sleep and we can't function. These instincts we have need to be put into check through prayer and meditation. for sure they'll crop up again but we keep trying. |

Re: Original sin
Romans 5:12 states that "through one man (Adam)sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.
For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.(romans 6; 23). For since death is through a man, resurrection of the dead is also through a man. For just as in Adam all are dying, so also in the Christ all will be made alive. (1 corinthians 15;21-22) |

Didymus you get things all twisted. Show me where God is evil...not some half cocked idea. everyone is BORN into sin and all have sinned & come short of the glory of God. the bible says in Noahs day, man was evil continually! so shall it be before the coming of the son of man. EVIL. How else do you think you get into the Kingdom of God after we just discussed it for 2 weeks. Born again, not of flesh but of spirit. |

Re: Original sin
ok Bandit, I am not twisting anything. You guys list a verse from the Bible to suport your belief and I am only doing the same. Not saying that I beleive God is evil, however, if God created everything, including darkness and light and then created man in his image this is self explanatory. Sure maybe sin did enter the world through Adam, i'm not saying it didn't. But where did the sin come from then?? God created everything! I listed a verse from the Bible to put a different perspective on the discussion. It says that God created man in his image. Case and point. What is it that you don't agree with??

Re: Original sin
there is no case. God is not evil & God is not sin. God does not create sin & neither can he do it. People do it. There was a commandment given in the beginning by God. ADAM & EVE broke it & disobedience is SIN.
we have done this before here, but it does not work when people make up there own stuff & deny parts of the bible they do not like or call myth. |

Re: Original sin
Bandit, i am smiling as i write this to you.
God created everything!!!!!!!!So if God created everything, where did the sin nature come from? I'm just asking, not trying to get you to respond in any particular way. I am pondering this myself also. I don't sit here pretending to know the answer because I don't. And if God created man in his image, what does that mean? To me image means image. We look in a mirror, we see an image, we look in a window sometimes we see an image, water, same thing. So if God created man in his image how else can you interpret this?? It certainly is a question worth contemplating, don't you agree? |

Re: Original sin
I forgot to add something. if God made man in his image and everything was good, what happened in Genesis 3:1 The serpent was craftier than any of the wild animals that God made.
Genesis 6:6 God grieved that He had made man on earth and his heart was filled with pain. Things apparently didn't turn out too good there did they? |
