Note about the LC board

Okay, I've been very busy the past few days and come back pretty tired, so I'm going to be blunt:

1. Openess

The Liberal Christianity board is for the discussion of Liberal Christianity, viewpoints, ideas, etc.

And anyone's invited to take part so long as there's a general respect.

I'm getting the impression of late that some people think the LC board is a closed club - no one comes in unless they're Liberal, but Liberal's can go out to Mainstream boards and post against Mainstream faith issues.

Note to all - that's not how we do things here. The LC board isn't closed to non-LC's, just as LC's aren't going to be thrown out of the Mainstream boards. I'm putting a stop to this divisionist mentality right now.

2. Rules for the LC board

Come on - we already have a CoC, and while it's great that anyone takes interest enough in CR to suggest what they'd like to see on any of the boards, when members start setting up their own public mandates on how boards should be run, without discussion with staff, that gets my back up.

I'm trying to be accomodating and offer hospitality - but this again is getting out of line. If "no personal attacks" isn't in the CoC, it needs to be in there - which of course it is. If there is anything you think needs adding to it, feel free to mention it.

3. Offensive posts

If you see any offensive posts, please report them using the little red triangle in the bottom left, or PM one of the staff directly.

Please avoid launching into attacks on other people on the public forums. I don't want LC people looking the mirror expression of everything they hate in others.

Overall, this board has been up a very short time, but it's already like watching Lord of the Flies in action.

Let's take a step back and remind ourselves that the Liberal Christianity board is a place to discuss Liberal Christian issues, is open to general liberal interpretations of faith, and as with all other boards on CR, is open for public view and participation.

Re: Note about the LC board

FYI, it wasn't my intention to overstep the adminstrators bounds by posting a thread on ground rules. If I have done so, I apologize.

But like you, I saw that the LC board was beginning to get pretty rabid and so I had hoped to bring some sense of order in our posting. But it mattered not, for my feeble attempt to defuse the situation went pretty much unheeded anyway, judging from the responses to my OP.

As I've implied in my post, the term "Liberal Christianity" swung the door wide open, so it is no wonder that it veered into choppy waters. But you are right. Mainstreamers ought to respect the fact that that there will be variant ideasthat will sometimes radically counter to their own thinking. And as long as they visit the LC forum, that ought to be respected. The same respect ought to be observed in the mainstream forums by LCers.

Anyway, I appreciate that you recognize a need for order, Brian.

No problem - misunderstandings occur - I guess it's my job to simply try to minimise misunderstandings in future.

not fair...

As I understand it of course anyone can go anywhere and comment anywhere, within the parameters of that space. I think it is wonderful that I can now stay out of the Christianity boards hair in regards to my liberal thinking, but attend to thoughts that fit the nature of that board.

I think the post you were refering to was simply asking for the same regard.

Tis your site, yet and I agree anyone has the right to attend, we simply ask that no one be subjected to hell.

Should we make this a Sticky thread? Closed? Just like in the Christianity forum? That way, it at least stays on top for everyone to see.

Re: Note about the LC board

Hi All,

First: I want to bump this thread so everyone will please re-read Brian's comments in the first post. Especially:

1. Anyone's invited to take part so long as there's a general respect.

2. If "no personal attacks" isn't in the CoC, it needs to be in there - which of course it is. If there is anything you think needs adding to it, feel free to mention it.

3. If you see any offensive posts, please report them using the little red triangle in the bottom left, or PM one of the staff directly.

4. Please avoid launching into attacks on other people on the public forums.

A general comment. I've noticed as I'm sure everyone else has that things are much better when the above are followed. Things start to degenerate, rapidly, when we make it and take it personally. No, this does not mean that we're going to start micromanaging threads...as has been the protocol lately the moderating has been minimal and it works very well that way. Until we get a big fish in our small pond who wants to make this place a soapbox. Then our delicate little ecosystem here takes a beating.

Trolling and bullying on a forum like this does not work without the participation of the bait. Let's rise to the occasion, and not rise to the bait.

Thus endeth the sermon.
