What is the leading English NEWS paper? Here in the states all they refer to is your scandal sheets.
Yes we have a few tabloids and then we have those masquerading as news, Washington Post and Times, New York Times, LA Times....

Re: newspapers....
The Guardian on the left, the Telegraph on the right, and perhaps the Independent in some sort of liberal limbo.
But hey, entertainment is what news is all about.

Re: newspapers....
....and the Times would have to be in the list I think. And The Observer on Sundays. Personally I would describe the Guardian as a critical and independent paper, rather than of the left, but maybe that's just where I'm looking from.
And of course Viz.

Agree to disagree.
The Guardian stinks of leftiness to me , though I concede that some of it could be labelled progressive and liberal as well.
You can only be so critical and independent within the confines of your ideology anyway.

I suspect your sense of smell is failling you!
Guardian is soft left at best, seems pretty middle of the road liberal to me.
I doubt anyones claim of independent thought and criticism, I think the best we can hope for is to be aware of our own bias.
From a left leaning, liberally minded Muslim with a strict streak!

Re: newspapers....
I've always found it interesting that right-types find Fox News (like the Telegraph) to be critical and unbiased, and left-types think the same of CNN (Guardian), while both call the other ridiculously spun.
Seems to me that both suck.

Surely you're not equating CNN with Faux News! Nobody beats FNN for blatant political bias and outright misinformation.

Errr I think you will find 'The Sun' is more popular than both. Besides none of the papers you named are entertaining they are lame The sun... Nudity, made up stupid stories.... jokes, cartoons... What more could you ask for.

Re: newspapers....
I haven't read it for a few years now, but I remember that The Sun had an air of self-importance. The Daily Star though, there was a newspaper. They had abandoned all pretence of seriousness, and they have Sportword.

Hear Hear Chris!
MSNBC is about the only national outlet in the U.S. to give an honest perspective on what's going on.

Re: newspapers....
I consistently find C-Span History to be a quite balanced and neutral source. I appreciate the opportunity to listen to various opposing views and draw my own conclusions. The programming concept there also allows me to observe actual historical debates and apply them to my thoughts about current events.
(Edited to add: This is broadcast in America--don't know if it is available anywhere else.)
