Re: Living in communities
17th, giving up something of our own will enable us to give more to each other. This is one of the central planks of what we are doing - flying in the face of the prevailing culture of individualism.
Dauer, your insights will be invaluable. I'll bring this stuff to the next meeting.
Chakraman, you've struck a chord. My wife has always wanted to live in a yurt, having once helped to make one from the fleece with Hal Wyn-Jones in Oxfordshire. Maybe we could have a permanent yurt within the site. We are both into alternative schooling, having helped to run the Bath Small School for a couple of years. You're not far away - you must come and visit when we're up and running.
Love.
Cliff

Dear brother 17th, I am concerned about your excessive state of soothigness, so I would very much like to share the burden of your material possesions.

You still obviously go to work and such? Or what, do you take on new jobs.. being fixing, building cooking and all that for your small community?

Re: Living in communities
Just this little bit of advice: When sharing housing, make sure all the utilities and other financial responsibilities are in somebody else's name. Women like running things, so push it off on them.

Yes. Some members of communities say that it's quite hard to hold down a full-time job and work the community as well. I suppose it just depends how active a community we want to be. The good thing is that because costs are shared, we should find our money goes a lot further and we don't have to do so much money-work.

Yeah, right. Um, actually all the shared bills will go to the co-op and will be paid from the service charge on the tenants. However, anyone who wants to ease the admin burden will always be welcome.
BTW, what does a bacon god actually do?

Re: Living in communities
A bacon God makes bacon! My bacon frying skills are beyond the normal human realm, which is why I'm known as the Bacon God! Actually, it's a nickname I picked up from my camping buddies. I'm the breakfast cook.

Re: Living in communities
Amongst those who have seen through the building a community and living in it, they have said it is the longest, hardest, most expensive personal development program on the market....and they are exceedingly glad they saw there way through it. Seems typically upon success you'll look around at somewhere between 10-20% of the people still with you that started on the venture...

That's what I thought. I've already described it to the group as "HARD, HARD and more HARD... but worth it." I think that sums it up.
