Innocent after 20 years on death row

Great idea to help a cause right here on this board! Please read on!

Think for a minute about everything that you did from 1977-1997. Now,
erase it all. That’s 20 years gone – BOOM – just like that. I’m only
21, so that would be a LIFETIME.

I saw a play that really moved me called “The Exonerated”. In short,
the play tells the TRUE stories of people who spent years on death row
before being found innocent and set free.

The play ran for years, but unfortunately, isn’t running anymore. But I
just saw Court TV is doing a film-version of the same play with some
bigtime actors/actresses i.e. Danny Glover, Susan Sarandon, etc.. It
airs on Jan.27th @ 9PM, but I’d check their site to be sure if it’s the
same in your time zone or whatever. www.courttv.com

I’m hoping that I could collect more people’s opinions here so I can
print and mail them to my Congressman and even my Governor. Letters
from actually people are powerful! Here’s a link to another
documentary, which gave me the idea of how to get involved!

So if you have thoughts on the death penalty, please share them here.
Just imagine if it was you, or your friend, or family sitting innocent
on death row. FYI One of my favorite songs has the line, “If you’re not
going to make something better, than you’re just IN THE WAY!” Let’s
all make something better right now.

Thanks so much!
Sylvia

Re: Innocent after 20 years on death row

I have a niece who is awaiting sentencing in Texas for armed robbery. They have her on tape, they caught her with the weapon, they have her fingerprints, DNA and three wittinesses but she says she is innocent, it is a big mistake. She could have very well pulled the trigger and killed somebody and for 29 dollars. I fell she deserves what she gets. She is 33 years old lost her kids, been in rehab half a dozen times, stolen from her own mom, her own kids. She was caught several years ago with a meth lab in her car with her kids in the car. I do believe there are just some bad people out there, but for the death penalty I think they have to be absolutely positive before it is considered.

What I find interesting about that... IF you get placed upon death row.... And FREAKING YEARS later... Of living in fear and sadness.. You are found innocent... You CANNOT sue anyone... You're not even copensated? At least let me kick the judge, jury and prison warden square in the nuts..... And give me some free food and stuff.... :|

OH an amell... -no one- deserves to die.

Namaste tflon,

If you do some searches you'll find a few threads here with info for ya.

I agree that we must work to rehabilitate criminals...

I agree that we must incarcerate for the horrendous crimes and not let out the unrehabilitable.

I am 100% against the death penalty though...for any crime. It has not been shown to reduce the crime rate and the state is setting a bad example by killing someone...it makes it acceptable to kill in some eyes. And when a criminal knows the death penalty is on the table, they believe they might as well take a few more out with them along the way, increases ruthlessness.
