Hinduism study help please
Friends,
I have (perhaps foolishly) offered to put together information for a small study in comparative religions for a group at my church, focusing this week on Hinduism. I've already gleaned a nice bit of information from CR's Hinduism pages (thanks, I, Brian!), but I'm wondering where I might find more introductory information and maybe some nice easy to understand timelines of the history of Hinduism, maybe some outlines covering basic beliefs and forms of worship.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Hinduism study help please
Hello,
I dont believe that the comparative-religion website has the Puranas, though the Vedas and Upanishads are available, which is good of Brian. I was wondering if the Puranas are available for online reading in english anywhere on the internet? or a software or e-book?
Appreciate any help in this regard.

This is pretty exhaustive, but I am not sure if it has any puranas(like Vishnu Purana etc.). But most the important scriptures of Hinduism can be found here.

h| tatvamasi,
There was a nice search engine on the site which was helpful but I could not find the Puranas. They are referenced at some places in texts that seem to be literary works but that seems to be the extent of it.
Thankyou for trying to help. Appreciate it.

Hello thipps,
Here are a few links to some of the major 18 Puranas. The first link is worth looking at, as it will give you an overview of the Puranas:
http://www.sivanandadlshq.org/religi...s.htm#eighteen
The next link is a translation of the Bhagavat Purana, also known as the Srimad Bhagavatam. This is one of the 18 major Puranas: http://www.srimadbhagavatam.org/
The third link is to a site where there are compilations of 6 more of the major Puranas, namely, Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, Vishnu Purana, Agni Purana, Varaha Purana and Kurma Purana: http://mydivineplanet.com/puranas/
This should be quite a lot of reading for you to start with. Hopefully, by the time you are done with these, the other 11 major Puranas will also be available online!! Enjoy!
