Re: Has CR changed you?
Ok. Then go shoot off some mortars after the croissants but we need both almond ones & chocolate ones. BTW that monty python skit is exactly what it is & is very funny. It would be good with the door knocking & slamming in surround sound.

Has CR changed me?
Well yes in some ways it has. It has surely shown me the "tolerant" crowd is not quite as tolerant as I had always believed. Bandit, if you ever decide to engage in dialog again let me know. Some of our old dialogs are the main things that make me think about CR. |

Re: Has CR changed you?
Interesting perspective Bandit:
Someone was angry with me once because I told him he should confess his crimes to the people he committed them against. He exclaimed to me that I was wrong to be defining God to him. My reply was, "You have been telling me who you think God is." He looked confused. He said he follows a different God. So I asked him if he would place greater faith and trust in a person who confessed a crime to him. I asked him further if he liked it when others confessed their sins to him. His answer was yes and yes. Having the answer I said, "I agree and thank you for defining God." A person might see what is Good in others, but does not see how they have unequally tried to exempt themselves from the same standard. So it looks to me like a hangup to denounce those who define God for the sake of defining God. While it is unknown whether the definition is a true witness, applied logic, or a total fabrication, it is always food for thought. Jesus and every prophet would be found as criminals if defining God were illegal. Realize it is never the exchange of a fully defined God, but an exchange of what a person has seen of God, or as the Holy Good behavior. From another viewpoint... I personally do not mind it if others converse about me. Does anyone here? So then why should God mind it if others converse about him? While there is surely a bit of rumor and gossip and fiction in any exchange, I submit that there is always a very large fact in it. For example while the subject itself may be total fiction, it is a total fact that someone believes it. That fact alone is something real and can be worked with. But if exchanging viewpoints of who or what God is were like death to my ears, then I am already dead to hearing others... both the fiction and the fact. Would you agree Bandit? |

Re: Has CR changed you?
For me, I think I was already in the process of a huge change in my spiritual orientation. My perspective of other religions was already becoming more and more tolerant in that I began to see that God is greater than the fundamentalist paradigm I've been so accustomed to all my life. I could no longer see condemnation in someone sincerely seeking God or the truth in another religion.
That shift is the reason I came here. CR has become a catalyst of ideas that in many ways has confirmed what I've suspected. I've certainly learned a lot from everyone here and have become far less dogmatic about my beliefs. As I peruse these threads, I am often surprised to find and learn new insights and try to understand other's POV before making any evaluations or counterpoints in these discussions. I'm more accepting, so I guess the biggest change is that I've become more tolerant while sticking to my own convictions. |

Re: Has CR changed you?
There is a difference between sticking to your convictions and imposing those convictions on others. It's a fine line between that and sharing your faith or sharing the message, which for Christians is something Jesus commanded us to do.
