Re: Has CR changed you?

I Brian has given us all a great gift in CR and for that I know that I owe him a great debt. Not only is there a place where we can vent, exercise the grey matter, and socialize but also a public forum to grow in. Having been extraordinarly patient with whole scruffy lot of us I Brian deserves the gratitude of all the members here.
I know, as I have come to know the fine and erudite members on this board, that I am not alone in these sentiments.
Thank you Brian, you're a hell of a guy

Re: Has CR changed you?

It made me not want anything to do with religion. I learned other religions/dogmas but it did nothing for me. I ended up rejecting them all in the end. I guess I always knew that.

The parsha was the best part as it offered a one on one, down to earth study partner with new things and new things coming out of the old and without the rhetoric that you find in the religions. For me that was the best part. I am just that way & find the same old topics and bickering obnoxious.

The only thing that changed is, I cannot stand talking to people about religion. As soon as anyone starts trying to explain God or lack of from a religious institution POV & their doctrines that no one can live by- I turn them off & I was never like that before forums like this. However that for me is a good thing because I am happy.

No one can explain any of it without running into dead ends as that is what finite minds tend to do following someone elses dead ends.
Which dead end do you prefer? I prefer none of them.

Maybe that is why Jesus always saved his best conversation for the closest in private? & tossed baby talk to the groups? Maybe he hated talking to people about religion like I do? & his best moments were alone and one on one? I don't know. Though it was political religion that got him killed & he knew it would, or so the tale goes. Makes one wonder.

I also will not reform to the politics of such places and so, left it behind me as I do not need to prove or justify anything. That is what happens when you reach for the hem of his garment instead of the confusion of the crowds.

Hi Bandito, nice to see you!

I agree, dialog is pointless when you already know you're right and everyone else is wrong. Why bother?

Hi China

For me it is more like dialogue about things that no one can prove right or wrong, true or false, then to debate what cannot be proven or disproven that is pointless.

Re: Has CR changed you?

I kind of agree with Bandit. Its always the same arguments and discussions about all of the same things. You cant prove faith and everyone wants proof in order to believe.. its an oxymoron.

I just read a good secular fantasy series by Faith Hunter (ROFL) the names of the books are Bloodring, Seraphs, and lastly Host. They were pretty good. I wouldnt put any religious emphesis on it.. the author did a good job fictionalizing a what if ... it basically sums up how I feel about this forum as vague as that statement might be

Hey Bandit,

I agree with you, although I don't think the dialogue/discussion is worthless. I agree completely that debate is worthless, and divisive. I've been trying to avoid that because you are right, you just can't "prove" faith.

However, I've learned a lot at these disucssion forums and I think I've made some friends. I know there are people here I care about.

So, Bandit, what's your favorite thing for breakfast? Can you prove it? Since you won't be able to prove your answer, should I unask the question and just guess as to what you might like for breakfast?

Or you could just come over & we can make a breakfast together as long as there is no discussion about religion or defining a God or gods

There are some people who enjoy arguing and will do that about anything & everything (not just religion). I know because I have a friend (someone who I trust for 2 decades) who I hang up the phone on all the time as soon as she tries to get me into a 'dialogue', I mean argument... & I tell her I am not going to argue with her. CLICK

Then she calls back & says, "I was not trying to argue with you."
