Smile Five Pointed Star?

Hello all, I'm am a new member but have visited this site daily for the last couple of months; during my lunch breaks mainly.
I would first like to say what a wonderful site this is. I find religion fascinating and peoples views on the various religions insteresting.

I have notice over my many days of viewing, that there are people accumilated here from all walks of life, all having various experiences to share, I may not have much to offer in the sense of answers - i've really come looking to have some possible answers to my many questions, i also look forward to learning a thing or two!

Love to you all, i look forward to hearing from you in the future - God's Blessings

My first of many questions: (by the way i have teeth like those for real - jokes!) Q. What is the name of the five pointed Star (point downwards) and what does it really mean!
Some say it is the Star of David, I Don't believe this is correct - can any body help?
Love

The Star of David has six points. It is made up of two triangles, one point-side up, the other point-side down.

A five-pointed star is called a pentacle. (pent = five) Also called a pentagram.

If you want the esoteric meanings, a pentragram with one upward point is symbolic of matter informed by spirit (the upper point is Spirit, the others are material elements; going clockwise from the top, they are: Water, Fire, Earth, Air.

A pentacle with one downward point symbolizes spirit subservient to matter; it also symbolizes a specific level of wisdom, in that it indicates a student's facing the selfish, egoistic nature that s/he must conquer in order to progress in spiritual development.

I'll look around for a good online article about this for ya.

Re: Five Pointed Star?

Meanwhile, here's a bit more, culled from my document files:

The number 5

The number 5 has always been regarded as mystical and magical, yet essentially 'human'. We have five fingers/toes on each limb extremity. We commonly note five senses - sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. We perceive five stages or initiations in our lives - eg. birth, adolescence, coitus, parenthood and death. (There are other numbers / initiations / stages / attributions).

The number 5 is associated with Mars. It signifies severity, conflict and harmony through conflict. In Christianity, five were the wounds of Christ on the cross. There are five pillars of the Muslim faith and five daily times of prayer.

Five were the virtues of the medieval knight - generosity, courtesy, chastity, chivalry and piety as symbolised in the pentagram device of Sir Gawain.

The number 5 is prime. The simplest star - the pentagram - requires five lines to draw and it is unicursal; it is a continuous loop.

Human stars

Expressing the saying Every man and every woman is a star, we can juxtapose Man on a pentagram with head and four limbs at the points and the genitalia exactly central. This is Man in microcosm, symbolising our place in the Macrocosm or universe and the Hermetic / Tantric philosophy of associativity as above, so below.
