Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

I'll start off w/ one
Playground schoolbell rings, again
Rainclouds come to play, again
Has no one told you she's not breathing ?
Hello, I'm your mind, giving you someone to talk to...Hello...
If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream

Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken
Hello, I'm the lie living for you so you can hide...
Don't cry...
Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
Hello, I'm still here
All that's left
Of yesterday...

"Hello", Evanescence

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

You wear guilt, like shackles on your feet...like a halo in reverse
- Depeche Mode, "Halo"

Hear it in my spirit
I've seen heroin for myself
On the street so young laying wasted
Enough ain't it enough
Crippled world
I just can't bring myself to see it starting
- Talk Talk, "I Believe in You"

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

We gotta drop the baggage. We gotta travel light.
We got a long road ahead. And we'll be moving day and night.
We gotta drop the baggage. We gotta let it go..............

Some friends of mine living on this earth, they got a hunger for the inner search.
They got the eyes of the mystic walking on the path of love........
The days of the conscious revolution are here....................
They got the eyes of the mystic walking on the path of love.

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

I've got two submissions - Paul Simon "The Boxer":

I am just a poor boy though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistence for a pocketful of mumbles
Such are promises.

All lies and jest,
Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest

And Jethro Tull "Thick as a brick":

Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
My words but a whisper - your deafness a SHOUT.
I may make you feel but I can't make you think.
Your sperm's in the gutter - your love's in the sink.

So you ride yourselves over the fields and
you make all your animal deals and
your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.

And the sand-castle virtues are all swept away in
the tidal destruction the moral melee.
The elastic retreat rings the close of play

as the last wave uncovers the newfangled way.

But your new shoes are worn at the heels and
your suntan does rapidly peel and
your wise men don't know how it feels

to be thick as a brick.

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

One of my favorites from Jethro Tull:

Quote:
"Inside"

All the places I've been make it hard to begin
to enjoy life again on the inside,
but I mean to.
Take a walk around the block
and be glad that I've got me some time
to be in from the outside,
and inside with you.

I'm sitting on the corner feeling glad.
Got no money coming in but I can't be sad.
That was the best cup of coffee I ever had.
And I won't worry about a thing
because we've got it made,
here on the inside, outside so far away.

And we'll laugh and we'll sing
get someone to bring our friends here
for tea in the evening --
Old Jeffrey makes three.
Take a walk in the park,
does the wind in the dark
sound like music to you?
Well I'm thinking it does to me.

Can you cook, can you sew --
well, I don't want to know.
That is not what you need on the inside,
to make the time go.

Counting lambs, counting sheep
we will fall into sleep
and we awake to a new day of living
and loving you so.

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

Another from Miten;

Go lightly on this fragile earth.
We are all strangers on this shore.
Remember what your life is worth.
And what it was we came here for.......................

Go lightly on this precious land.
We're part of everything we see.
A tear drop on the ocean.
The wind that whispers in the trees.
The wind that cries in holy rage at the deeds and damage we have done.
For how little we care for the life that is there.
Go lightly native son.

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

How about this? Reach for the Light -Steve Winwood

Deep in the night
the winds blow cold
and in a heartbeat
the fear takes hold

Deep in the storm
there's a place that's soft and still
where the road waits to be taken
if you only will

The voices inside you
can lead your soul astray
Believe in what you dream
Don't turn away
don't you turn away

Reach for the light
You might touch the sky
Stand on the mountaintop
and see yourself flying
Reach for the light
to capture a star
Come out of the darkness
and find out who you are

Somewhere in time
the truth shines through
and the spirit knows
what it has to do

Somewhere in you
there's a power with no name
It can rise to meet the moment
and burn like a flame
And you can be stronger
than anything you know
Hold on to what you see
Don't let it go
don't you let it go

Now, there's no turning back
when your destiny is calling
Listen to the thunder roll
and let your heart break free

Reach for the light

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

"sounds of silence" always makes me sit up and listen....

....And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

"Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say.

~Pink Floyd - Time

"Haven't you heard?
it's a battle of words.... and most of them are lies."

~Pink Floyd - Us the Them

"emptiness is loneliness,
and loneliness is cleanliness;
and cleanliness is godliness,
and god is empty/ just like me"

~Smashing Pumpkins - Zero

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill

~ Rush - Freewill

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city lights
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing stretching every nerve
Had to listen had no choice
I did not believe the information
I just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom boom boom
"Son," he said "Grab your things,
I've come to take you home."

To keepin' silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Tho' my life was in a rut
"Till I thought of what I'd say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me
Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" I said "You can keep my things,
they've come to take me home."

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

For those of us from the USA who are old enough to remember the first few seasons of Sesame Street, a song that was performend by the late Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog: Bein' Green

It's not that easy bein' green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

It's not easy bein' green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
Or stars in the sky

But green's the color of Spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean
Or important like a mountain
Or tall like a tree

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
But why wonder, why wonder?
I am green and it'll do fine
It's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be
************************************************** ********
This was sung by Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog in the first Muppet Movie (yes, I do like the Muppets in some of their things.) This piece is quite apropos for this board: The Rainbow Connection

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it,
And look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell,
We know that it's probably magic....

Have you been half asleep
And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
Is it something that I'm supposed to be?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
La, la la, La, la la la, La Laa, la la, La, La la laaaaaaa

(reprise from "The Muppet Movie"):

Why are there so many songs about rainbows?
That's part of what rainbows do.
Rainbows are memories, sweet dream reminders --
What is it you'd like to do?
All of us watching and wishing we'd find it,
I know you're watching it, too.
Someday you'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and you!

Van Morrison did a great cover of "Bein' Green" on his 1973 album Hard Nose the Highway--beautiful song!

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

This song has been covered by at least three different people after Harry Chapin recorded it (and it became a big hit in 1974): Cat's In the Cradle

(Verse 1)
My child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay,
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talkin’ ‘fore I knew it, and as he grew,
He’d say “I’m gonna be like you, yeh,
I know I’m gonna be like you”.

(Chorus)
And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little Boy Blue and The Man In The Moon.
“When ya comin’ home Dad?”
“I don’t know when, we’ll get together then, son,
ya know we’ll have a good time then”.

(Verse 2)
Well my son turned 10 just the other day,
He said “Thanks for the ball Dad, come let’s play.
Can ya teach me to throw?” I said
“Not today, I got a lot to do.” He said “That’s ok”.
And then, he walked away but a smile never came,
He said “I’m gonna be like him, yeh,
Ya know I’m gonna be like him”.

(Chorus)
And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little Boy Blue and The Man In The Moon.
“When ya comin’ home Dad?”
“I don’t know when, we’ll get together then, son,
ya know we’ll have a good time then”.

(Verse 3)
Well he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say
“Son I’m proud of you, can ya sit for a while?”
He shook his head, and he said with a smile
“What I’d really like Dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See ya later, can I have them please?”

(Chorus)
And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little Boy Blue and The Man In The Moon.
“When ya comin’ home son?”
“I don’t know when, we’ll get together then, Dad,
ya know we’ll have a good time then”.

(Verse 4)
Well I’ve long since retired, my son’s moved away,
I called him up just the other day.
I said “I’d like to see you, if you don’t mind.”
He said “I’d love to Dad, if I can find the time.
You see my new job’s a hassle and the kids have the flu,
But it’s sure nice talking to you Dad,
It’s been sure nice talking to you.”
And as he hung up the phone it occurred to me,
He’d grown up just like, my boy, was just like me.

(Chorus)
And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little Boy Blue and The Man In The Moon.
“When ya comin’ home son?”
“I don’t know when, we’ll get together then, Dad,

we’re gonna have a good time then”.

************************************************** ********
I think of it as a forewarning: if you don't make time for what's really important now, when you do have the time for them, they won't have it for you.
