As far as the Violent Femmes go; yes, Hallowed Ground is very good, too. That's actually the only other Femmes record I own, but I can't listen to it right now, since it is actually a record and I don't own a turntable anymore. Here's some lyrics to follow Ripple--U2's One: Is it getting better? Or do you feel the same? Will it make it easier on you now You've got someone to blame? You say... One love One life When it's one need In the night One love We get to share it Leaves you baby if you Don't care for it Did I disappoint you Or leave a bad taste in your mouth? You act like you never had Love And you want me to go without Well it's... Too late Tonight To drag the past out into the light We're one, but we're not the same We get to Carry each other Carry each other One... Have you come here for forgiveness? Have you come to raise the dead? Have you come here to play Jesus To the lepers in your head? Did I ask too much? More than a lot? You gave me nothing Now it's all I got We're one But we're not the same Well we Hurt each other And we'll do it again You say Love is a temple Love a higher law Love is a temple Love the higher law You ask me to enter But then you make me crawl And I can't be holding on To what you got When all you got is hurt One love One blood One life You got to do what you should One life With each other Sisters Brothers One life But we're not the same We get to Carry each other Carry each other One One |

As to who is a Deadhead, the debate continues to roll on--although reasoned consensus tends toward a "hey, if you like the music, you can consider yourself a Deadhead" sort of position. Anyhow, I should think of a lyric to post--ok, another Dead song: Blues For Allah Lyrics: Robert Hunter Music: Jerry Garcia Arabian wind, the needle's eye is thin |

The Rain Song
The Rain Song
This is the springtime of my loving- the second season I am to know You are the sunlight in my growing- so little warmth I've felt before. It isn't hard to feel me glowing- I watched the fire that grew so low. It is the summer of my smiles- flee from me Keepers of the Gloom. Speak to me only with your eyes it is to you I give this tune. Ain't so hard to recognize- These things are clear to all from time to time. Ooooh... (Chorus) I've felt the coldness of my winter I never thought it would ever go I cursed the gloom that set upon us... But I know that I love you so but I know that I love you so. These are the seasons of emotion And like the winds they rise and fall This is the wonder of devotion- I see the torch we all must hold. This is the mystery of the quotient- Upon us all a little rain must fall, Just a little rain? ooooh, yeah yeah yeah! |

Artist: Skunk Anansie
Song: Twisted Album: Stoosh [" Stoosh " CD] I cried on my blood day there was nothing that I could hold on to just a line could have helped remind me of you, of you I screamed till the blood came I was living in a cloud of hope lover's kiss then they make a wish to the end, they pretend everyday hurts a little more everyday hurts a little more and I'll do anything yes I'll do anything to belong to be strong to say there's nothing wrong everyday hurts a little more everyday hurts a little more and I'll do anything yes I'll do anything to belong to be strong to say there's nothing wrong everyday hurts I cried in the sunlight would I fake all the times I loved you just to play in a game of twisted with you with you I need to believe you sacrificed all the lies we made up how we kissed then we made our wish to the end, to the end repeat chorus time made me confide in you so contrived were the words you sold me now nothing can swallow the feeling so shallow inside |

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
here's a good one:
Indian Sunset Music by Elton John Lyrics by Bernie Taupin As I awoke this evening with the smell of wood smoke clinging Like a gentle cobweb hanging upon a painted tepee Oh I went to see my chieftain with my warlance and my woman For he told us that the yellow moon would very soon be leaving This I can't believe I said, I can't believe our warlord's dead Oh he would not leave the chosen ones to the buzzards and the soldiers guns Oh great father of the Iroquois ever since I was young I've read the writing of the smoke and breast fed on the sound of drums I've learned to hurl the tomahawk and ride a painted pony wild To run the gantlet of the Sioux, to make a chieftain's daughter mine And now you ask that I should watch The red man's race be slowly crushed What kind of words are these to hear From Yellow Dog whom white man fears I take only what is mine Lord, my pony, my squaw, and my child I can't stay to see you die along with my tribe's pride I go to search for the yellow moon and the fathers of our sons Where the red sun sinks in the hills of gold and the healing waters run Trampling down the prairie rose leaving hoof tracks in the sand Those who wish to follow me I welcome with my hands I heard from passing renegades Geronimo was dead He'd been laying down his weapons when they filled him full of lead Now there seems no reason why I should carry on In this land that once was my land I can't find a home It's lonely and it's quiet and the horse soldiers are coming And I think it's time I strung my bow and ceased my senseless running For soon I'll find the yellow moon along with my loved ones Where the buffalos graze in clover fields without the sound of guns And the red sun sinks at last into the hills of gold And peace to this young warrior comes with a bullet hole |

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Not my favourite lyrics, but it's stuck in my bloody head. I think it's something to do with the groups of Israeli Jewish vandals who terrorise Palestinian communities.
The Brews - NOFX Friday night we’ll be drinkin’ manashevitz Goin’ out to terrorize goyem Stompin’ shagitz, screwin’ shicksas As long as we’re home by saturday mornin’ Cause hey we’re the brews Sportin’ anti swastika tattoos Oi oi we’re the boys Orthodox, hesidic, o.g. ois Orthopedic dr. martins good for Waffle making, kickin’ through the shin Reputation, gained through intimidation Pacifism no longer tradition Cause hey we’re the brews Sportin’ anti swastika tattoos Oi oi we’re the brews The fairfax ghetto boys skinheaded jews We got the might, psycho mashuganas We can’t lose a fight, as we are the chosen ones Chutspah, we battle then we feast We celebrate, we’ll separate our milkplates from our meat |

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Hi--Peace--I suppose this is what I get for daring to post a recipe thread? I barely survived the movie thread--had to excommunicate myself. I vowed I could never visit the song lyrics thread, but here am I...
God help us all-- (Nice lyrics--I have always loved Kermit (Henson), and I am glad I scrolled back to make sure that you already have the one about being green. A classic.) Ahem..I was planning on reading Eickhart or Merton, or even Harry Potter, but now I am going to have to read this thread. I knew it would get me sooner or later. ![]() InPeace, InLove |

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Hi-Peace
It was great to see "Indian Sunset" on here, Starship--don't see that one too often. In fact, I don't remember it ever getting much air time. LOL--someone once brought me those lyrics all written out by hand, and claimed that they had composed them. I played along for a while... Anyway, while I love many, many songs, I will choose these lyrics today: Trina wears her wampum beads She fills her drawing book with line Sewing lace on widow's weeds And filagree on leaf and vine Vine and leaf are filagree And her coat's a secondhand one Trimmed in antique luxury She is a lady of the canyon. Annie sits you down to eat She always makes you welcome in Cats and babies 'round her feet And all are fat and none are thin None are thin and all are fat She may bake some brownies today Saying you are welcome back She is another canyon lady. Estrella circus girl Comes wrapped in songs and gypsy shawls Songs like hammers hurled At beveled mirrors in empty halls Empty halls and beveled mirrors Sailing seas and climbing banyans Come out for a visit here To be a lady of the canyon. Trina takes her paints and her threads And she wears a pattern all her own Annie bakes her cakes and her breads And she gathers flowers for her home For her home she gathers flowers And Estrella, dear companion Colors up the sunshine hours Pouring music down the canyon-- Coloring the sunshine hours They are the ladies of the canyon. (Ladies of the Canyon, Joni Mitchell, 1968) |

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
A little known band called The Calm.
The song is called Insideous. There was a time when I could talk to you my friend you dont need to say dont need to answer the question I already know what you think before the war before the fighting ever starts when we faught for freedom before we thought we'd won Now I see a sign drawn in Biro on the wall in my own words but it answers the question I thought I was the one to ask. The damage was done so slowly, Cant believe it was you all along, You're Insideous. Every time i thought it was a natural low, Every time I was wrong, it was you, You're insideous. With the damage you've done it might be to late, We'll just have to wait and see what the verdict is 'Cos it I cant trust you then there's no one else you've become the anti-self you're insideous. Now Im all alone I cant see me coming back from this again because Ive been here once and I thought I knew the score And I dont think I can do it all again I have to end it now or see it through till the end. Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Hey! I know that of that little band, ATF--good stuff!
And now, for something quite silly: A sultan sat on his oriental mat In his harem in downtown Persia. He took a sip of his coffee, just a drip, And he said to his servant, Kersia, "Aw, curse ya, curse ya, curse ya, That's the worst cup of coffee in Persia," 'cause... All I want is a proper cup of coffee Made in a proper copper coffee pot. I may be off my dot, But I want a proper coffee in a proper copper pot. Iron coffee pots and tin coffee pots, they are no use to me. If I can't have a proper cup of coffee In a proper copper coffee pot, I'll have a cup of tea. In days of old, when knights and men were bold, And whiskey was much cheaper, Ben Turpin rode to a coffee shop and showed His pistols to the keeper-- He said, "Stand and deliver! Can't you see that I'm all a-quiver?" 'cause... When Bonaparte found that he was in the cart And he lost that Waterloo fight, He gave his sword to Wellington, my Lord, and he said, "Those British can't half fight (recorded in French, sort of )Now you've had your Waterloo, sir, tell me what Am I having with you, sir? 'cause... (back to coffee pot chorus) Now King Solomon and his queen would carry on, So we heard in the ancient scandals, He bought her lots of silver coffee pots With diamond legs and handles, And said the queen of Sheba, I'd rather have any old tea-bag (LOL--"g" is silent here )'cause... (You know the rest by now--try reading it out loud, really fast )--"What I Want is a Proper Cup of Coffee" From Big Trouble, Trout Fishing in America, 1991. Written by R.P Weston, Bert Lee in 1926. |
