SpiderBait - Black Betty

Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
Black betty had a child (bam-ba-lam)
The damn thing gone wild (bam-ba-lam)
She said, "i'm worryin' outta mind" (bam-ba-lam)
The damn thing gone blind (bam-ba-lam)
I said oh, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)

Oh, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
She really gets me high (bam-ba-lam)
You know that's no lie (bam-ba-lam)
She's so rock steady (bam-ba-lam)
And she's always ready (bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)

Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
She's from birmingham (bam-ba-lam)
Way down in alabam' (bam-ba-lam)
Well, she's shakin' that thing (bam-ba-lam)
Boy, she makes me sing (bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, black betty (bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, black betty bam-ba-lam

Guns N Roses - Knocking on Heavens door..

Mama take this badge from me
I can't use it anymore
It's getting dark too dark to see
Feels like I'm knockin' on heaven's door

Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door

Mama put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore
That cold black cloud is comin' down
Feels like I'm knockin' on heaven's door

Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door
Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door

Bob Marley - I Need a Hammer

They just keep holdin' me,
A-won't let go;
Holdin' me;
Won't let go!

I need a hammer - a hammer - a hammer - a hammer
To hammer them down!
I need a rammer - a rammer - a rammer - a rammer
To ram them down!

They just keep teasin' me
And, you know, they play like they don't know.
Provokin me,
But this is all I know:

I need a rammer - a rammer - a rammer - a rammer
To ram them down!
I need a hammer - a hammer - a hammer - a hammer
To hammer them down!

Wee-ooh-ooh;
Ooh-ooh-ooh;
Ooh-ooh-ooh;
Ooh-ooh-ooh.

Oh, I need a rammer - a rammer - a rammer - a rammer
To ram-a them-a down!
Oh, I need a hammer - a hammer - a hammer - a hammer
To hammer them down!

Said, I need a rammer - a rammer - a rammer - a rammer
To ram-a them down!
I need a hammer - a hammer - a hammer - a hammer
To hammer them down!

Holdin' me (ooh-ooh-ooh);
Won't let go (ooh-ooh-ooh).
Holdin' me (ooh-ooh-ooh);
Won't let go (ooh-ooh-ooh).
I need a rammer - a rammer - a rammer - a rammer
To ram-a them down!
I need a hammer - a hammer - a hammer - a hammer
To hammer them down!
(I need a rammer)

I need a hammer - a hammer - a hammer - a hammer
To hammer them down!
I need a rammer - a rammer - a rammer - a rammer
To ram them down!

I need a hammer - a hammer - a hammer - a hammer
To hammer them down!
I need a rammer - a rammer - a rammer - a rammer
To ram them down!

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

Um, 17th, Black Betty is originally by Lead Belly (I believe) and Knocking On Heaven's Door is by Bob Dylan (from his Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid album.) Sorry about this.

Tidbit of trivia: The late Warren Zevon recorded a version of Knocking On Heaven's Door for his last album (he succumbed to cancer not long after the album was finished.)

P-Funk(Wants to get funked up) by Parliament

Good evening.
Do not attempt to adjust your radio, there is nothing wrong.
We have taken control as to bring you this special show.
We will return it to you as soon as you are grooving.

Welcome to station WEFUNK, better known as We-Funk,
Or deeper still, the Mothership Connection.
Home of the extraterrestrial brothers,
Dealers of funky music.
P.Funk, uncut funk, The Bomb.

Coming to you directly from the Mothership
Top of the Chocolate Milky Way, 500,000 kilowatts of P.Funk-power.
So kick back, dig, while we do it to you in your eardrums.
And me? I'm known as Lollipop Man, alias the Long-Haired Sucker.
My motto is:

Make my funk the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut (make mine the P)
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up. (wants to get funked up)
I want the bomb,
I want the P.Funk (yeah)
I want my funk uncut. (make mine the P)
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up.

WEFUNK, y'all.
Now this is what I want you all to do:
If you got faults, defects or shortcomings,
You know, like arthritis, rheumatism or migraines,
Whatever part of your body it is,
I want you to lay it on your radio, let the vibes flow through.
Funk not only moves, it can re-move, dig?
The desired effect is what you get
When you improve your Interplanetary Funksmanship.
Sir Lollipop Man! Chocolate coated, freaky and and habit forming.
Doin' it to you in 3-D,
So groovy that I dig me.
Once upon a time called Now!
Somebody say, "Is there funk after death?"
I say, "Is Seven Up?"
Yeah, P.Funk!

Make my funk the P.Funk (uncut funk!)
I want my funk uncut (P.Funk!)
Make my funk the P.Funk (uncut)
I wants to get funked up.
I want the bomb,
I want the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut. (make mine the P)
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up.

Make my funk the P.Funk (make mine)
I want my funk uncut (the P)
Make my funk the P.Funk (hah!)
I wants to get funked up. (WEFUNK, y'all)
I want the bomb, (home of the bomb)
I want the P.Funk
I want my funk stepped on (Don't step on my funk)
Make my funk the P.Funk
Before I take it home

Yeah, I dig!
Let me put my sunglasses on.
That's the law around here, you got to wear your sunglasses.
So you can feel cool.
Gangster lean.
Y'all should dig my sun-rooftop.
Well, allright. Hey I was diggin' on y'alls funk for awhile.
Sounds like it got a three on it though, to me.
Then I was down south and I heard some funk with some main ingredients
Like Doobie Brothers, Blue Magic, David Bowie.
It was cool,
But can you imagine Doobiein' your funk? Ho!
WEFUNK, we funk.
Make my funk the P.Funk (ho!)
I want my funk uncut (oh, make mine)
Make my funk the P.Funk (yeah)
I wants to get funked up.
I want the bomb,
I want the P.Funk (P.Funk, y'all)
Don't want my funk stepped on
Make my funk the P.Funk
(Home of the extraterrestrial brothers)
Before I take it home.

Gettin' deep.
Once upon a time called Right Now
Ain't it funky now
Far 'round
Hey, doin' it to ya in the earhole

Make my funk the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut (make mine the P)
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up. (I want the bomb)
I want the bomb,
I want the P.Funk
Don't want my funk stepped on
Make my funk the P.Funk
Before I take it home
Yeah

We're not leavin' y'all, I want you all to stay tuned for Starchild
Make my funk the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up.
I want the bomb,
I want the P.Funk
Don't want my funk stepped on (oh, make mine)
Make my funk the P.Funk (I wants to get funked up)
Before I take it home

Don't stop, get down
Talk!
Blow your horn
Peee-youuu!
Wants to get funked up
Well, allright!

Make my funk the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up.
I want the bomb, (P.Funk)
I want the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut.
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up.

Make my funk the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up.
I want the bomb,
I want the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut.
Make my funk the P.Funk
Before I take it home

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

Hi, Peace

I have always liked the following lyrics a great deal. I'm a gardener, and a bit of a flower child type person. However, I have never been quite sure what dear Steven, Cat, or Yusef (as I think he prefers now) had in mind when he wrote them. Is it religious? Is it drug related? I have heard both suggested. I feel kind of silly asking--I'm such an admirer of his music. But I have looked around some, and never found too much commentary on the song. As a matter of fact, there's not much out there about the artist, either--there's lots of sites and discussion, but the same things over and over. I know he is a controversial figure, but I only know a little regarding the reason for this. As this is the lyrics thread, I'll stop talking and post lyrics. And in order not to disrupt the thread any further, I'd ask that responses to my questions be sent in the form of a private message. Thanks!

Into White
Cat Stevens

I built my house from barley rice
Green pepper walls and water ice
Tables of paper wood
Windows of light
And everything emptying into white
A simple garden, with acres of sky
A brown-haired dogmouse
If one should drop by
Yellow delanie would sleep well at night
And everything emptying into white
And everything emptying into white
A blue eyed drummer rehearses outside
A black spider dancing on top of his eye
Red legged chicken stands ready to strike
And everything emptying into white

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

I've really been enjoying this one recently:

Book Of Daniel

Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: David Freiberg
Calling down the gods of gold, silver, stone and wood
The mighty king of Babylon, the proud Balshazzar, stood
Drinking glory to himself as though he were a god
When an armless hand appeared among that party crowd
Came drifting through the window to write upon the wall
Four words that didn't make much sense at all

The king turned to his friends in fright, in frenzied desparation
But not one soul among them could make interpretation
The queen said: long ago there was a wise man in this land
Why don't you send for Daniel? He could read them

Daniel walked in bent but tall, spat upon the floor
Let me see these words - well, hmm, yes - I've seen them before
They simply mean your days are numbered; fact, they're even run
You've been judged in the balance and found wanting
Your royalty is just a gift - your father learned that lesson
By losing both his kingdom and his reason

So great in pride, he was cut down, driven to the field
Lived there like a wild beast until his pride did yield
And when the king, your father, achieved humility
He was restored his kingdom and his sanity

And though you knew all this to start, you humbled not your heart
The writing on the wall commands your fall
Old King Darius that night slew Balshazzar
Appointed Daniel prince and first adviser
The lesser princes being jealous, drew up a decree
Allowing prayers to no one but the king

They caught old Daniel dead to rights, down upon his knees
Threw him in the lion's den for breaking that decree
Daniel walked among them safely, by his faith protected
The king said: this is just what I expected
Now you who brought me Daniel may kindly go yourselves
Into the lion's den - see how you fare there

What shall be the end of this? How shall it pass away?
Get up, old Daniel, never mind, get up and go thy way
Further words are closed and sealed until the end of time
Many shall be called, each in his season
In wickedness of pride is lost the light to understand
How little grace is earned and how much given
Robert Hunter Recordings Date Album 1980 Jack O'Roses

Disturbed - Land of Confusion.

I must've dreamed a thousand dreams,
Been haunted by a million screams.
But I can hear the marching of feet,
Moving into the street..........

Now did you read the news today?
They say the danger's gone away....
But I can see the fires still alight,
Burning into the night..

There's too many men, too many people....
Making too many problems....
And there's not much love to go around,
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

Ah Ah Ah Ah

This is the world we live in,
(ohh ohh oh)
And these are the hands we're given,
(ohh oh)
Use them and let's start trying,
(ohh ohh oh)
To make it a place worth living in.

Oh, superman, where are you now?
When everything's gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, these men of power
Are losing control by the hour

And this is the time, this is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go around
Tell me why this is a land of confusion

Ah Ah Ah Ah

This is the world we live in
(ohh ohh oh)
And these are the hands we're given
(Ohh oh)
Use them and let's start trying
(ohh ohh oh)
To make it a place worth living in

I remember long ago
When the sun was shining
And all the stars were bright
All through the night
In the wake of this madness
As I held you tight
So long ago

I won't be coming home tonight,
(sha sha)
My generation will put it right,
(sha sha)
We're not just making promises,
(sha sha)
That we know we'll never keep...........

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

Ah Ah Ah Ah

Now, this is the world we live in
(ohh ohh oh)
And these are the hands we're given
(ohh oh)
Use them and let's start trying
(ohh ohh oh)
To make it a place worth fighting for

This is the world we live in
(ohh ohh oh)
And these are the names we're given
(ohh oh)
Stand up and let's start showing
(ohh ohh oh)
Just where our lives are going to

Ah Ah Ah Ah

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

my own personal favourites:

"sex fuhrer baby i'm a love dictator"

and

"well i'm christ in shades i'm a napalm god
your lipstick flickers round my lightning rod"

both from "prime mover" by zodiac mindwarp and the love reaction. always gives me a snigger.

then there's almost the entire lyrics to frank zappa's "joe's garage", particularly "stick it out", "a token of my extreme", "catholic girls" and "why does it hurt when i pee?" and i cannot leave out his other masterworks "titties and beer" and "jewish princess". hur hur hur. i'm not even going to post them up because i seriously think i'd get in trouble.
