Explain the Terms
I am making this thread for those times when you're reading another thread and come across a term you don't understand. Wikipedia doesn't help, neither does a dictionary
but you don't want to derail the thread by asking. So ask here. Remember - there are no stupid questions! (At least, that's what I keep telling myself! )There are lots of terms I don't understand, especially the Jewish ones but I'm sure a concentrated session on Wikipedia will sort out most of those. For now I want someone to tell me what an 'axiomatic assumption' is. |

Re: Explain the Terms
My three daughters are the three most talented, beautiful people on the planet — a combination of their father's limitless talent, and their mother's unutterable beauty. (Well, two of them anyway, the other one we found in a skip.)
And that's true. People tell us they are talented and beautiful. The axiomatic bit is that I am assuming my 'limitless talent' and their mother's 'unutterable beauty' is the cause, a cause so obvious it's beyond question or doubt, so its 'axiomatic', it doesn't need saying. It never occurs to me they might just be talented and beautiful on their own account. Or on account of their mother being friendly with the milkman... (Which daughter did we find in a skip? Whichever one I'm talking to). Thomas |
