How Daniel’s Prophecy Foretells the Messiah’s Arrival

THE prophet Daniel lived more than 500 years before the birth of Jesus. Nevertheless, Jehovah revealed to Daniel information that would make it possible to pinpoint the time when Jesus would be anointed, or appointed, as the Messiah, or Christ. Daniel was told: “You should know and have the insight that from the going forth of the word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Leader, there will be seven weeks, also sixty-two weeks.”—Daniel 9:25.

To determine the time of the Messiah’s arrival, first we need to learn the starting point of the period leading to the Messiah. According to the prophecy, it is “from the going forth of the word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem.” When did this “going forth of the word” take place? According to the Bible writer Nehemiah, the word went forth to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem “in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king.” (Nehemiah 2:1, 5-8) Historians confirm that the year 474 B.C.E. was Artaxerxes’ first full year as ruler. Therefore, the 20th year of his rule was 455 B.C.E. Now we have the starting point for Daniel’s Messianic prophecy, that is, 455 B.C.E.

Daniel indicates how long the time period leading to the arrival of “Messiah the Leader” would last. The prophecy mentions “seven weeks, also sixty-two weeks”—a total of 69 weeks. How long is this period of time? Several Bible translations note that these are, not weeks of seven days, but weeks of years. That is, each week represents seven years. This concept of weeks of years, or seven-year units, was familiar to Jews of ancient times. For instance, they observed a Sabbath year every seventh year. (Exodus 23:10, 11) Therefore, the prophetic 69 weeks amount to 69 units of 7 years each, or a total of 483 years.

Now all we must do is count. If we count from 455 B.C.E., 483 years takes us to the year 29 C.E. That was exactly the year when Jesus was baptized and became the Messiah! (Luke 3:1, 2, 21, 22) Is that not a remarkable fulfillment of Bible prophecy?


From 455 B.C.E. to 1 B.C.E. is 454 years. From 1 B.C.E. to 1 C.E. is one year (there was no zero year). And from 1 C.E. to 29 C.E. is 28 years. Adding these three figures gives us the total of 483 years. Jesus was “cut off” in death in 33 C.E., during the 70th week of years. (Daniel 9:24, 26)

I've heard and read a number of different scenarios on this subject through the years...so many *certain* interpretations that end up coming to naught. The problem I see so far with this one, is the return of Messiah and establishment of the Kingdom at the end of the 70th week. You (and many many before you) suggest Daniel's weeks are weeks of years, but you find great difficulty with what to do with that final 70th week. Here you say Jesus was cut off, died, sometime in the middle of the 70th week, which in order for Daniel's prophecy to be accurate by this interpretation now means Messiah had to return in force and establish the kingdom on Earth in AD 36 or 37, *ushering in the Millenial (one thousand year) rule.* It's been the lion's share of *2* thousand years since then...which means something is horribly off with this interpretation of Daniel's prophecy if that prophecy is indeed Divinely inspired.

Isaiah 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Isaiah 2:22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of ?

Just letting the Word speak for itself...sounds remarkably like the fall of the Whore in Revelation, to me anyway.

Isaiah 11:16 And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

Hmmm, what to believe...the Word itself, or some man's interpretation? Good thing I *do* read my Bible. Otherwise I might be fooled into believing a man instead of G-d...

How could I possibly want to exchange this promise for anything I have heard come from any of the various denominations out there?

its all happening especially in the last days .


there are a great crowd of very disarable things.

You don't assume these things are happening now mee. As people have always worshipped material things.

the disirable things are people , and they are being gathered togeather in unity, and they are a GREAT CROWD from all nations . REVELATION 7;9-10 .

Jesus’ words recorded at John 10:16: "I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; (THE FOLD OF 144,000 WHO ARE GOING TO HEAVEN) those also I must bring, and they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock, one shepherd." so , Jesus’ shed blood benefits two groups of people—first, those Christians whose hope is to rule with Jesus in heaven and second, those who look forward to everlasting life on a paradise earth. Evidently, it is this second group that is pictured by the "desirable things" of Haggai’s prophecy.—Micah 4:1, 2; 1 John 2:1, 2.


and yes it most certainly is happening on global scale , there are millions of those desirable things . and they all listen to J esus voice
