Chess anyone?? Everyone??

Alright...the rules.

anyone can play... you don't have to just stick to one side... you can't play twice in a row...

As far as nomenclature goes, I am old school...so I'm gonna start out old school...if it is deemed that this dog needs to learn new tricks...so be it, I'll learn...

only need to add four things.... What side is playing, what piece is moving, where it came from and where it is going.

Cut and paste the entire game and add your move to the bottom.

Game one.

white pawn k2 to k4

Re: Chess anyone?? Everyone??

Hi wil...Played a bunch of chess in my youth but not much for lots of years. In fact I know more about Chess Recording Studios in Chicago than I do about the game. Refresh my memory on nomenclature. When you say white pawn from k2 to k4 I don't get the numbering diagrammatics of the board. You're moving the pawn in front of the white King, but forward or diagonally? Is there a link that we could study to get that basic knowledge down before we make fools of ourselves.

Then there's that famous scene in Blade Runner where the replicant murders his Creator in the middle of a chess game between a genetic designer and his boss... and the one where Tim Robbins carves a chess set out of rock during his stay at Shawshank Pennetentiary...but I digress.

flow....

Re: Chess anyone?? Everyone??

Okee dokee, modern notation it is.

for flow and others check this out
(yes all numbering is predjudiced...from the white perspective)

To allow folks to keep up we won't go with the shortest notations...we'll still identify the color, the piece where it came from and where it is going...maybe as we go along...

So to update and modify

Game One

W PE2-E4
B PC7-C5

W BF1-C4

I could ask you the same...

Do I find chess fun? Yes.
Do I find extenuated chess games fun? Yes.
Do I find games where multiple people play and you aren't playing one side or the other fun? Yes.
Do I find it fun to introduce thinking games to other folks? Yes.

Of course I also enjoy Go, Pente, Dominoes, Mancala, Senate, Quints, Bridge, Pinochle, 13, Poker, Gin, RummiCube, CashFlow, Euchre, Wist, Canasta, Tumpet....you name it, if it involves some thinking, some skill, some neuronet building and camaraderie...I find it fun.

But also I find playing in the mud, juggling, sex, etc....by themselves or in combination..

Re: Chess anyone?? Everyone??

Hushed murmurs from the game....

White provided a standard opening could be headed anywhere...

Black responded with a possible variation on a queen's gambit...

White moves forward to test the waters of a four move mate...

Black chuckles and provides a simple block indicating "Who do you think I am" while also providing a potential attack on the bishop...

White could have pushed the pawn and provided an en passant opportunity, yet chose to move to begin control of the center of the board with the queen's knight...

At this juncture we wonder how many boards are being dug out of the attic or game box and will be set up around the world...

And who will be the next person to pick up a piece...
