Re: can spirituality be taught?

I believe so, yes, sag. I'm not sure I really understand ... but I think that this is what Christ meant when He said, "I am the Alpha and the Omega ... before Abraham, I am."

The only way I really know how to intepret our arrival here on earth, in the flesh, is to say that we ARE Spirit, yet that we have allowed ourselves to take on the willing `forgetfulness' of our Divine heritage, in order to experience what God has ordained.

Our descent includes a gradual progression from the Spiritual realms, through denser & denser ethers, until finally - we incarnate (for millions of years) in the mineral kingdom. Gradually we progress, through the vegetable and animal kingdoms, until finally we enter the human ... yet we are headed toward the Deva, an even higher realm - and eventually all the way back to Godhead.

Our arrival, however, is different than our departure. We arrive, with the knowledge, the awareness, the experience, and the GROWTH which is only possible through incarnations in the Kingdoms just mentioned. God has ordained it; and thus we experience it!

Another way to say it, is that God has literally sent HIMSELF forth, in about ~60 billion pieces, or Sparks, to EXPERIENCE the fullness, the breadth, the depth, the richness ... of His own Creation.

To quote the Hindu Scripture, the Upanishad:
"Having permeated this whole universe with one fragment of Myself, I remain."
We cannot, any of us, rightfully say, "I am GOD," because this statement really only applies to our Divine heritage, and not yet our present. It is our future, but only as we MAKE IT SO (as Jean Luc Picard might say) ...

But to answer the question, Are we destined to literally BECOME Deity (or even - dare we say it - Deities)?

YOU BET ... and Deity, or Deities, also entails humility, perspective and balance. Let those who cannot dare to imagine their own future - consider this.

Sometimes people still labor under the misconception that God is a tyrant. No wonder we are afraid to imagine ourselves created in such an image!!!

Love and Light,

~Andrew

Andrew, I do not share the colourful embellishments of your ideas but I do see where you are coming from and do not discount the possibilities. Indeed if I were not so comfortable up here on my fence I'd jump down beside you.

As for the bit I quoted you on I say this.. If there is a God that is the architect and artist that created this universe then He is an entity with such an appreciation of beauty that He cannot have what it takes to be a tyrant. Yes people labour under such illusions peddled by those seeking power but so might the slaves to such ideas be infected with the entropic opposite of which you speak. Yin/Yang, Good/Evil. God is maybe not the only force at work?

As to the question in the OP. Everything can be taught.

From the Bhagavad-Gita:

Chapter 2 :

Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be.

As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by such a change.

Those who are seers of the truth have concluded that of the nonexistent [the material body] there is no endurance and of the eternal [the soul] there is no change. This they have concluded by studying the nature of both.

That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul.

from Chapter 4

The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.

Regarding the question in the OP:
leaving aside exactly what "spirituality" entails;

I think it is ESSENTIAL it is taught; if children grew up realising there might just be more to the world than consumerism, materialism, wealth etc then the planet (and us on it) just might stand a chance...

Re: can spirituality be taught?

One thing defining spirituality...another to define taught...

does someone teach you to ride a bicycle...or do you experience it?

Educate...educar...to draw out..

Spirituality is within us.

Sometimes someone, something, or some event coaxes it out of us (taught?)

With others it simply bubbles up like an artesian well...

my thoughts...
