I enjoy phrase origins so that is what I did, I googled ... phrase origins all sixes and sevens .... and this is what I got.

It either has to do with women arguing over shoe sizes, or is a cryptic reference to the origins of the "baker's dozen."

Coarsely ground corn meal (usually white corn), boiled up like polenta, often served with eggs for breakfast.
