hello,
can anyone suggest some good books, online resources, or other resources for reliable and thorough statistics of and introduction to the various religions and other belief systems of the world?

Karen Armstrong wrote a really good book called "A History of G-d". I find her to be quite unbiased. The back of the book gives pages of suggested further reading for each religion, so if there is anything in particular you are looking for I can give you her suggestions for books on that religion.
