Bible research question

I have a question regarding a bible we found. I am interested because I have never seen a bible (atleast a Christian Bible) containing the type of information that this bible contained. It included information about Paganism, Greek Mythology, Egyptian History & Gods ETC. Listed as one of the authors (of comentary) is Rev. Robert Jamieson of St. Paul Parish in Glasgow. Has anyone heard of it, him? Is this Bible considered to be Heretical. On the front it says "Holy Bible". I think (I do not have it in my possesion currently) it is from the 1800's. What is this?

Hi Selbora

It appears he was a Presbyterian, so one might assume the Bible in question is an authorised Presbyterian imprint. You'd have to check publisher, etc., for that.

Many bibles carry extra material, such as essays, maps, etc., to give background information — but assuming the authors have not touched the Sacred Text itself, then there's no reason to assume the bible is an heretical document.

Then again, it depends what denomination you're viewing it from, and what the commentaries say.
